If that DP to HDMI device is using MST(and your device supports it) it may in fact work as advertised. Displayport supports daisy chaining devices. So having 3 screens on 1 DisplayPort connector is not unheard of. and width is a limit clearly.

But a "splitter" will just show the exact same display on both monitors. The PC sees a single connection. If you want 2 different displays (Extended), then you need to plug each monitor into a different port on the GPU.
