Typical applications include marine, aircraft, architecture, general sheet metal work, heat exchangers, fuel lines and tanks, flooring panels, streetlights, appliances, rivets and wire. The exceptional corrosion resistance of 5052 alloy against seawater and salt spray makes it a primary candidate for the failure-sensitive large marine ...
These alloys are used for boat building and shipbuilding, and other marine and salt-water sensitive shore applications. [70] 5052 aluminium alloy; 5059 aluminium alloy; 5083 aluminium alloy; 5086 aluminium alloy; 6061 aluminium alloy; 6063 aluminium alloy; 4043, 5183, 6005A, 6082 also used in marine constructions and off shore applications.
Non-standard grades include 316H which has a "high" carbon content of greater than 0.04% giving it a high creep rupture strength at high temperatures, 316L(Hi)N which is an extra-high nitrogen grade (0.16—0.30%), 316Ti which is stabilized by titanium, 316Cb which is stabilized by niobium (the code comes from "columbium", the former name ...
MetalCraft Marine (MCM) is an aluminium boat manufacturer located in Kingston, Ontario. In 2012, MCM opened a facility in Cape Vincent, New York after operating in Clayton, New York for many years. Founded in 1987 by Tom Wroe and Montgomery Smith, MCM has built vessels for organizations [ 1 ] and municipal fire departments.
Hobby-grade RC models commonly use 7075 and 6061 for chassis plates. 7075 is used in the manufacturing of M16 rifles for the U.S. military as well as AR-15 style rifles for the civilian market. In particular high-quality M16 rifle lower and upper receivers, as well as extension tubes, are typically made from 7075-T6 alloy.
Aluminium-magnesium alloys are considered to be very corrosion-resistant, making them suitable for marine applications, but this is only true if the -phase exists as a non-contiguous phase. Alloys with Mg contents below 3% are therefore always corrosion-resistant, with higher contents, appropriate heat treatment must ensure that this phase is ...
5083 aluminium alloy is an aluminium–magnesium alloy with magnesium and traces of manganese and chromium. It is highly resistant to attack by seawater and industrial chemicals.
Unhardened 5086 has a yield strength of 120 MPa (17 ksi) and ultimate tensile strength of 260 MPa (38 ksi) from −28 to 100 °C (−18 to 212 °F). At cryogenic temperatures it is slightly stronger: at −196 °C (−321 °F), yield of 130 MPa (19 ksi) and ultimate tensile strength of 380 MPa (55 ksi); above 100 °C (212 °F) its strength is reduced.
