Avenged Sevenfold (abbreviated as A7X) is an American heavy metal band from Huntington Beach, California, formed in 1999.The band's current lineup consists of vocalist M. Shadows, rhythm guitarist Zacky Vengeance, lead guitarist Synyster Gates, bassist Johnny Christ, and drummer Brooks Wackerman.

After replacing Wendt with Justin Sane and later Dameon Ash, Avenged Sevenfold settled on Johnny Christ (Jonathan Seward) on bass in 2003 to record Waking the Fallen. The album was released in August of that year, but did not chart at that time.

Jacob in turn murders the Snells' loyal servant Ash - whom Darlene viewed as a surrogate son - in order to appease the cartel. The cartel orders the Snells' poppy fields burned to deter the FBI investigation into the Byrdes; Darlene retaliates by poisoning a heroin shipment, killing 57 people. The cartel in turn attempts to assassinate the Snells.

In September of 2002, Dameon Ash left Avenged Sevenfold and was replaced by Johnny Christ. [10] Christ has previously played with the band whenever Ash could not attend, filling in on a previous tour. [11] Having found a new bassist, the group began recording their new album. Waking the Fallen was released on Hopeless Records in August 2003.
