Its name comes from Elizabeth "Bettie" de Villiers, the maiden name of the wife of Gideon P. Retief von Wielligh. [ 2 ] [ 5 ] [ 3 ] Von Wielligh was Surveyor-General of the South African Republic and he lived on his estate in Villieria between 1885 and 1898 with his wife and children.
The southern terminus of the R55 is a t-junction with the M11/R101 Pretoria Main Road. It then crosses and interchanges the M1 De Villiers Graaff motorway/Ben Schoeman Highway as it heads northwards through Woodmead. Leaving Woodmead, it crosses under the N1 highway (Western Bypass) before interchanging with the R564 (Maxwell Drive) in Sunninghill.
Villiers is a small town situated on the banks of the Vaal River next to the N3 highway in the Free State province of South Africa. It was founded in 1882 on the two farms Pearson Valley and Grootdraai owned by Lourens de Villiers .
The R51 begins at Bapsfontein, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng at the 4-way intersection with the R25 route and the R50 route (Delmas Road). As Pretoria Road, it heads south-south-west for 10 km up to Petit (east of Kempton Park and north-east of Benoni), where it meets the M44 metropolitan route and continues by way of a left turn to become Geldenhuys Street southwards.
The M1 De Villiers Graaff motorway is a metropolitan route and major freeway in the City of Johannesburg, South Africa. The highway connects the southern areas (including Booysens , Eldorado Park and Soweto ) with the city centre and extends further north through Sandton into the Ben Schoeman Highway towards Pretoria .
In 1926 Villiers introduced an even smaller engine, the 125 cc with twin exhaust ports and side-mounted carburettor, and in 1927 they introduced the 344 cc twin 2-stroke. Villiers were to go on to produce a wide range of single and twin cylinder 2-strokes primarily for motorcycle use.
