The album was largely recorded using 4-track technology, though Decca's new 8-track recording system was installed during the sessions. "Visions of Paradise" was the last song recorded to 4 tracks, on 4 June. Vocal overdubs were made on 5 and 6 June to "Ride My See-Saw" and "Om" using the new system.
1 4 5 1. By convention, Nashville notation eliminates the slashes and bar lines that denote the beats in the measure: "With the number system it’s understood that each number written on your chart is given the value of one measure of music. In 4/4 time, that’s a total of four beats per number on the chart." [5]
Though power chords are not true chords per se, as the term "chord" is generally defined as three or more different pitch classes sounded simultaneously, and a power chord contains only two (the root, the fifth, and often a doubling of the root at the octave), power chords are still expressed using a version of chord notation.
There are few keys in which one may play the progression with open chords on the guitar, so it is often portrayed with barre chords ("Lay Lady Lay"). The use of the flattened seventh may lend this progression a bluesy feel or sound, and the whole tone descent may be reminiscent of the ninth and tenth chords of the twelve bar blues (V–IV).
Minor chords are noted with a dash after the number or a lowercase m; in the key of D, 1 is D major, and 4- or 4m would be G minor. Often in the NNS, songs in minor keys will be written in the 6- of the relative major key. So if the song was in G minor, the key would be listed as B ♭ major, and G minor chords would appear as 6-.
The tonic, subdominant, and dominant chords, in root position, each followed by its parallel. The parallel is formed by raising the fifth a whole tone.. The minor tonic, subdominant, dominant, and their parallels, created by lowering the fifth (German)/root (US) a whole tone.
