Corwin Manufacturing Company (formerly Vaughn Machine Company) was a pioneer brass era American automobile company based in Peabody, Massachusetts. [ 1 ] During 1905 and 1906, Corwin produced the Gas-au-lec , a five-place side-entrance tourer with a copper -jacketed four-cylinder four-cycle gasoline (petrol) engine of 40-45 hp (30-34 kW).
Notable buildings include the Springfield Ice and Refrigerator Company (1914, 1927), Armour Creamery Boiler House (c. 1900), Andrew Rebori Company (c. 1900), Crighton Provision Company (c. 1900), and Armour Creamery Cold Storage Warehouse (c. 1910). [2] It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. [1]
Corwin Township is located in Logan County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 643 and it contained 302 housing units. [ 2 ] Corwin Township changed its name from Middletown Township on an unknown date.
The Corwin was named for Thomas Corwin, a well-known mid-nineteenth-century politician who served as Secretary of the Treasury during Millard Fillmore's presidency. She was the second of three Revenue Cutter Service and Coast Guard vessels to bear the name (there was also a patrol boat Cape Corwin).
