To add, my understanding (based on stuff I read in probably unreliable sources but I have no reason to disbelieve it) is that in the 1980s songs couldn't enter the Hot 100 unless they were being played on pop music radio, hence how you could have a song like the Tom Browne one which topped this chart but didn't enter the Hot 100 at all.
The term post-disco is a referral to the early to late 1980s era movement of disco music into more stripped-down electronic funk influenced sounds; post-disco was also predecessor to house music.
