The Iowa Terminal acquired 75 freight cars in 1980, and more in 1982. These cars enabled the railroad to fill the orders of online shippers when connecting railroads were unable to provide needed cars. The railroad did not come to Lyon County until 1885 when the Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway (BCR&N) proposed to construct a line between Little Rock, Iowa and Sioux Falls, South Dakota via Rock Rapids.
