In 1986, financial services company Hambros plc, having de-merged its banking arm, acquired two estate agents, Bairstow Eves and Mann & Co, to form a new company called Hambro Countrywide plc, which was listed on the London Stock Exchange. In 1988, the company created Hambro Assured, then the UK's largest life insurance broker.

Redlands is a Grade II listed country house estate in West Wittering, West Sussex, owned by the Rolling Stones' Keith Richards. [1] [2] In his autobiography, Richards describes purchasing the property in 1966: We just spoke to each other the minute we saw each other. A thatched house, quite small, surrounded by a moat.
The estate was owned in the 1970s and 1980s by the Jordanian businessman Taj Hajjar, who was a friend of King Hussein of Jordan. The biggest ever robbery in Sussex occurred on the property in May 1983 when £800,000 of jewellery was stolen. Hajjar put up an £80,000 reward, but no thief was ever apprehended. [3]

After the war the house was sold, like many other English country houses of this time, and on 21 June 1921 Aldingbourne House became the property of West Sussex County Council, partly for small-holding purposes, and partly as a tuberculosis sanatorium with a capacity of 61 adult beds plus 9 for children.
