In the film, Diancie, a Pokémon who is the Princess of an underground kingdom, joins the Pokémon trainer Ash Ketchum and his friends, Pikachu, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie on a journey to meet the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas, who will awaken the power in Diancie to create a source of energy that will save the kingdom.

Detective Pikachu [1] (known in Japan as Great Detective Pikachu) is an adventure game developed by Creatures Inc. and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. The game is a spin-off of the Pokémon franchise, in which the player works with a talking Pikachu to solve various mysteries.
The film returns to the series’ traditional 2D art style rather than using the CGI animation used in Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution. It features the new Generation VIII Mythical Pokémon Zarude and a shiny Celebi. It's a sequel to Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us. [2] In Japan, the film was released on December 25, 2020, by Toho.
