Metairie (/ ˈ m ɛ t ər i / MET-ər-ee) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States, and is part of the New Orleans metropolitan area.
In 1981 it had about 61,000 students and 75 schools. By 2012 it had 81 schools but about 46,000. That year there was a proposal to close seven schools. [5] Of the nine the Jefferson Parish School Board members, eight voted in favor of the closures and one voted against. [6]
Ridgewood Preparatory School was founded in 1948 by Ottis O. Stuckey as a college preparatory school for boys in grades kindergarten through twelve. The original address was 201 Northline in Old Metairie. The school became co-educational in 1952. The campus was moved in 1972 to the present address at 201 Pasadena Avenue in Metairie, Louisiana.
The school operated as a four year high school until 1981 when the Archdiocese of New Orleans gave permission for the school to begin an eighth grade program for the 1982–83 academic year. The senior high school plant occupies one third of the campus and consists of five separate buildings adjoined by covered walkways.
