The International Harvester Company (IHC) has been building its own proprietary truck engines since the introduction of their first truck in 1907. International tended to use proprietary diesel engines. In the 1970s, IHC built the DVT 573 V-8 diesel of 240 and 260 hp (179 and 194 kW) but these were not highly regarded and relatively few were sold.
The D6H was introduced in 1986 along with 3 other H-Series track-type tractors. This was the first D6 with Caterpillar's elevated drive sprocket undercarriage. The D6R replaced the D6H in 1996, and came in five models ranging from the 165 hp (123 kW) D6R to the 175 hp (130 kW) D6R XL and XR, and the 185 hp (138 kW) D6R XL (IG) and D6R LGP.

A series of improved models were later produced, including the D7C in 1955, the D7D in 1959, the 160 hp (120 kW) D7E in 1961, the 180 hp (130 kW) D7F in 1969 and the 200 hp (150 kW) D7G in 1974. In 1986 the 215 hp (160 kW) D7H was the first D7 equipped with Caterpillar’s elevated drive sprocket undercarriage.
The Navistar VT engine family is a line of diesel engines that was produced by International Truck and Engine (Navistar International) from 2003 to 2016. Developed as the replacement for the T444E V8, the VT V6 and V8 diesels were the smallest diesel engines used in Navistar vehicles, slotted below the DT inline-6 engine family.

Caterpillar first introduced the RD4 in 1936, [1] as the diesel follow on to the successful CAT 30 gas model. The RD4 originally weighed in at 10,000 pounds (4,500 kg), and used Caterpillar's D4400 engine, an inline four-cylinders, with a 4.25 by 5.50 inches (108 mm × 140 mm) bore and stroke. [ 2 ]
