Moose Mountain Provincial Park was designated a park in 1931. From then until 1935, several work projects around the park were completed. Work began in the spring of 1931 with the building of Moose Mountain Chalet, landscaping, building of Main Beach on Kenosee Lake, and a road going south connecting the park to Carlyle Lake and the town of Carlyle, and going north to Kennedy.
The village of Kenosee Lake is on Kenosee Lake, alongside Highway 9, and in the heart of Moose Mountain Provincial Park. Outside of the Indian reserves , it is the largest community in Moose Mountain with a 2016 population of 234 people.

The highway runs from Highway 9 near the village of Kenosee Lake to a point about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) into Moose Mountain Provincial Park near Little Kenosee Lake. Highway 209 provides access to Moose Mountain Provincial Park's various amenities, such as campgrounds, the golf course, hiking trails, ball diamonds, picnic areas, and lakes. [2]
