Ikoyi is the most affluent neighborhood of Lagos, located in Eti-Osa Local Government Area. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It lies to the northeast of Obalende and adjoins Lagos Island to the west, and at the edge of the Lagos Lagoon .
The Dolphin Estate was one of Ikoyi's first gated communities. [1] built by Messrs HFP Engineering Nigeria in 1990 for the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation, LSDPC. This was the completion of phase 1, which consisted of the construction of 646 units.
The building's intended purpose ceased in 1991 after Lagos' status as Nigeria's capital was transferred to Abuja, FCT. Since 2006, the building has been in the midst of legal disputes between the Lagos State Government and a property developer (Resort International Limited) who won the bid to manage the building from the Federal Government.
