Whispering Pines was established as a resort by the Strickler family in the 1930s. The family built most of the accommodations by themselves, including a spring-fed swimming pool and a store. A post office operated from the store from 1935 until 1962. [3] Much of the community was destroyed by the Valley Fire in September, 2015. [4]
Kernville (previously Whiskey Flat, Rogersville, and Williamsburg) is a former settlement in the Kern River Valley of the Sierra Nevada, in Kern County, California.
