Large sections of the Willowemoc are open to public fishing. It is an especially popular and picturesque fly fishing stream. The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum is on the Willowemoc, not far from Livingston Manor, on old Route 17. Brown trout are stocked from the Catskill Mountain Fish Hatchery located a few miles north of Debruce.
Traditionally sporting camps were always “remote”, which made them desirable destinations for fishing, hunting, and other types of outdoor recreation. [8] Remote camps are typically rustic wilderness log cabins without such modern utilities as indoor plumbing, electricity or telephone lines; but many have been updated or adjusted to make for a more comfortable stay.
This cabin, known as the “Warden’s Camp” was built in 1960 by the chief pilot for the Maine Warden Service and is rented out along with the six cabins at the main camp on the north shore. The camps bring in the fisherman and ATVers in the spring, annual family vacationers in the summer, and hunters and leaf peepers in the fall.
Sprucewold Lodge is a historic summer tourist accommodation at 4-9 Nahanada Road in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.Its main lodge built in 1927, it was the centerpiece of an extensive rustic retreat on the Spruce Point peninsula southeast of downtown Boothbay Harbor.
The cottages were built between 1900 and 1912 as part of the Mount Kineo resort complex, one of interior Maine's most successful summer resorts of the early 20th century; the cottages and the golf course are the only major surviving components. The cottages were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. [1]
The center conducts educational programs in river ecology, angling history, stream craft, including fishing etiquette, fly tying, fly casting, aquatic entomology, and stream improvement to increase public awareness of the values of fly fishing, prime among which is respect for the natural environment and the habitats of fly-responsive fishes. Androscoggin Lake is a body of water located in the towns of Wayne and Leeds, Maine. The surface area of the lake is 3,826 acres (1,548 ha). Its greatest length is 4.5 mi (7.2 km) and its greatest width is 2.8 mi (4.5 km). [2] The lake is very shallow with a mean depth of 15 ft (4.6 m) and maximum depth of 38 ft (12 m). [3]
