Jackson is the only city in, and seat of government of, Jackson County in the U.S. state of Michigan. [4] As of the 2020 census, the city population was 31,309. [5] Located along Interstate 94 and U.S. Route 127, it is approximately 65 miles (105 km) east of Kalamazoo, 75 miles (121 km) west of Detroit and 35 miles (56 km) south of Lansing.

U.S. Route 127 follows the western border of the township and leads north 10 miles (16 km) to Jackson, the county seat, and south 19 miles (31 km) to Hudson. M-50 runs through the eastern side of the township and the village of Brooklyn, leading northwest 14 miles (23 km) to Jackson and southeast 19 miles (31 km) to Tecumseh.
The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.04. In the township the population was spread out, with 27.1% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years.
