I Dream of Jeannie is an American fantasy sitcom television series created by Sidney Sheldon and starring Barbara Eden as a beautiful but guileless 2,000-year-old genie and Larry Hagman as an astronaut with whom she falls in love and eventually marries.
Roger takes Jeannie's bottle and, believing it to be a mere trinket, gifts it—with Jeannie inside—to visiting female Russian cosmonaut Sonya (Arlene Martel) as a token of friendship. Tony's attempts to recover the bottle fail, and soon Sonya discovers she has a genie.
"The Lady in the Bottle" is the pilot episode of the American fantasy sitcom I Dream of Jeannie. It was written by series creator Sidney Sheldon and directed by Gene Nelson, and originally aired on NBC on September 18, 1965. It would not air again until Fall 1970, when the series went into syndication.
