The BMW 5 Series (G60) is an executive car manufactured and marketed by German luxury automaker BMW since 2023. The lineup consists of the G60 saloon, G61 estate (marketed as Touring), and the G68 long-wheelbase sedan. It represents the eighth generation of the BMW 5 Series, succeeding the G30 model and the G32 6 Series liftback.
The 2025 BMW M5 is far more powerful than its predecessor, thanks to a plug-in hybrid system, but that new battery pack and electric motor also make it around 1000 pounds heavier than before.

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. It is considered an iconic vehicle in the sports saloon category. [1] [2] The M5 has always been produced in the saloon (sedan, US English) body style, but in some countries the M5 has also been available as an estate (wagon, US English) from 1992 to 1995, from 2006 to 2010, and since 2024.
The BMW Head of Design during the development of the G30 was Karim Habib. [1] Interior design was led by Daniel Mayerle. [2]The 5 Series saloon was unveiled on 12 October 2016 [9] before making its public debut in January 2017 at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.
BMW has pulled the cover off of the G90-generation M5. The segment icon has adopted a plug-in hybrid powertrain with 717 hp and 738 lb-ft, making it the most powerful M5 yet.
The E34 is the third generation of the 5 Series, manufactured for model years 1988–1996. It was launched in the sedan body style, with the range expanded in 1990 to include the "Touring" wagon/estate body style. The E34 was the first 5 Series to be available with the wagon body style, all-wheel drive and V8 engines.
