Gerard Hendrik (Geert) Hofstede (2 October 1928 – 12 February 2020) was a Dutch social psychologist, IBM employee, and Professor Emeritus of Organizational Anthropology and International Management at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, [1] well known for his pioneering research on cross-cultural groups and organizations.
Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory is a framework for cross-cultural psychology, developed by Geert Hofstede.It shows the effects of a society's culture on the values of its members, and how these values relate to behavior, using a structure derived from factor analysis.
Geert Hofstede originally put the cat amongst the pigeons (on the subject of the international relevance of American management theory - I'm sure there have been other cats, and other flocks of pigeons) in 1980 when he published a paper titled "Motivation, Leadership, and Organisation: Do American Theories Apply Abroad?".
