Mystogan (ミストガン, Misutogan) is a masked Fairy Tail wizard who hails from the parallel universe of Edolas as the counterpart of Jellal Fernandes. Unable to use magic on his own, Mystogan employs staves infused with magic power for many effects, such as to create illusions and draw magic circles to attack his opponents.
While adjusting to life at her new guild, Wendy meets Mystogan, whom she realizes is the Jellal from her childhood. Mystogan warns Wendy of Magnolia's imminent destruction by a portal in the sky called anima, which later causes the city and most its inhabitants except Natsu, Wendy, Happy, and Carla to disappear.
Wendy finally meets Mystogan, whom she had known as Jellal in her childhood. In spite of his best efforts, he reveals he is unable to stop Anima, a powerful magic that will destroy all of Magnolia. Mystogan arrives at Kardia Cathedral and battles Laxus until Natsu and Erza arrive, distracting Mystogan. Laxus blasts his mask off to reveal Jellal's face; however, Mystogan tells Natsu and Erza he is a different person from Jellal, and he disappears.

With the Raijin Tribe defeated, the masked Mystogan engages Laxus and fights him to make him lift the Thunder Palace spell. Their battle attracts the attention of Natsu and Erza, who see Laxus blasting off Mystogan's mask, revealing that he resembles Jellal. Erza and the rest of Fairy Tail destroy the Thunder Palace.
