We have updated reliability stats for the Altima (on our redesigned site) to include owner experiences through September 30, 2011. Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year: 2011: 49, about average, very small sample size. 2010: 9, better than average.

Awd is really no interest to me since I probably won’t drive it in the winter. I’m at 110 miles right now, gonna baby it for the first 1200 then dump the factory fill.
A newbie here. I am in the market for a new car with the intention of keeping it for long term use (thinking at least 10 years). I am very interested in the Altima 2.5s CVT sedan, but wife is a little worried about long-term reliability of Nissan cars. A little bit of history: A few years ago I bought a used Nissa Altima 1995.

The 2005 Nissan Altima has 1736 problems & defects reported by Altima owners. The worst complaints are engine, body / paint, and transmission problems. Lots of engine problems, bad paint and transmission problems are the top 3.
Both are good cars. Major difference is the Altima has a CVT transmission and if you keep the car along time that will be a $3500 REPLACEMENT, since no one repairs or rebuilds these units.
