I noticed several people commenting on their Southwest Gas bill increasing this month. For two months now I have recieved outrageous bills: Nov- Dec. for $190.00 and last month Dec.20-Jan 23rd was $295.03 !!! Last year the usage was 64 therms opposed to our 172 therms for this last bill. We only have a stove and a furnace hooked up to gas.
1. Shut off your gas for 2 days 2. Photograph your meter at the beginning and end of each bill cycle so they can't acuse you of using a certain number of therms 3. Call Southwest Gas and complain. Even if nothing happens, at least they will know you are aware of your bill being much higher.
Southwest gas keeps pushing my meter read date earlier and earlier, this results in most of my bills being 24-26 days. The result this year is that I have to pay two bills this month and I will have paid 13 bills total this year.
Additionally, most Southwest Gas employees drive marked company vehicles and wear a company uniform with our logo. This morning I was rousted out of bed by the sounds of heavy equipment, no big deal because I knew contractors for SWGas were doing work in my neighborhood. They were doing maintenance and replacing gas lines in the street.
The natural gas pipe owned by NV Energy that goes into the meter supplies natural gas at about 500 lbs of pressure (very high pressure). Coming out of the meter, it is only about 1/4 of pound of pressure -- very very low pressure.
The house on the SW side (near Torrey Pines and Shelbourne) is a 2-story, 3bd, 2.5bt, gas stove, 50 gal gas water heater and furnace, gas dryer and is approximately 1600 sq ft. built in 2007. There will be 4 adults but 2 to 3 will be gone usually during the week and home on weekends, so I figure a realistic average figure of usage.
