Saab safety is legendary. The 9-3 and 9-5 didn't win 5-Stars top Safety award from IIHS for nothing...it is truely the safest car on the road money can buy... As far as the 9-3 reliability is concerned Model Year 2002 is the safest bet. 2002 is the last model year for the old style hatch and 02-03 for the convertible.
Saab 9-3 Real World MPG. With the price of fuel being what it is, the mileage you're getting is becoming more important. This is the place to discuss the mileage performance you're getting out in the real world. I'm getting right at 24 mpg overall with my 2003 9-3 convertible. Probably could do better if I tried to.

Off the cuff I would say Jaguar especially older used ones possibly a four seater BMW but I really like the Saab 9 3. Finally believe it or not and you probably will not believe it try fitting in a now discontinued used Volkswagen Cabrio GLX.
Sure glad the mystery was solved. Went from a 2003 Saab 9-3 Convertible wirh 36,000 miles on it to my 2001 Chrysler Sebring LXi Convertible with over 95,000 miles on it and I couldn't be happier. I love this Sebring - Just an all around nice vehicle (and no cowl shake like in the Saab)
