Oscars and cichlids in generally are bad combos with fire eels. and a 100 w/ an oscar and a fire eel unless you "really know what your doing" is a disaster asking to happen. Fire eels are not aggressive fish in general, they do well with non-aggressive fish.
If I could recommend, depending on size, I would toss in 3 or 4 cubes. Whatever he doesn't eat his tank mates will. As the eel enters the 6 inch size it is good to start feeding red wiggler worms and eventually going to night crawlers. At about a foot he should be on nightcrawlers, at this point you can introduce a pellet by deception.

Mine will dash and dive around the tank like holy terrors when feeling frisky. This may spook your jar or initiate an attack on the eel. Jars are notorious for "turning" on tank-mates.

I’m back with the need for more fire eel advice. I woke up this morning and saw that I had some fish with what looks like ick starting to spread on my geosphagus. My fire eel isn’t showing symptoms right now. But what treatment is safe to use with her in the aquarium? All parameters are in perfect range.
I have two fire eels- a 10" and a 12" and they cohabitate comfortably with a senegal, an albino sen, an ornate, and an endli- all the polys are 6" and everyone gets along at these sizes. I cant tell you about other sizes though

Jan 20, 2009. #4. my fire eel was in a 40 gal for a year and went from about 5 inches to 10 then i put it in a 55 by its self and is now 2 foot after 2.5 years in thata tank its getin a 75 by itself as soon as it cycles. Life is like a jar of peppers what you eat today might burn you tomorrow.
