Liu Xiang (simplified Chinese: 刘 翔; traditional Chinese: 劉 翔; pinyin: Liú Xiáng; born July 13, 1983) is a Chinese former 110 meter hurdler. Liu is an Olympic Gold medalist [2] and World Champion. [3] His 2004 Olympic gold medal [4] was the first in a men's track and field event for China.
For the men's 110 metres hurdles, each National Olympic Committee was permitted to enter up to three athletes that had run the race in 13.55 seconds or faster during the qualification period. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress.
The men's 110 metres hurdles at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on 18–21 August at the Beijing National Stadium. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] Forty-two athletes from 32 nations competed. [ 3 ] The event was won by Dayron Robles of Cuba, the nation's second gold medal in the high hurdles.

The Olympic records are 12.91 seconds for the men's 110 m hurdles, set by Liu Xiang in 2004, and 12.26 seconds for the women's 100 m hurdles, set by Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in 2020. The fastest time recorded at the Olympics for the men's 200 m hurdles was 24.6 seconds by 1904 winner Harry Hillman.
