The Ahmednagar Fort (Ahmadnagar Qilaa) is a fort located close to the Bhingar Nala near Ahmednagar in [1] Maharashtra state western India. It was the headquarters of the Ahmednagar Sultanate. In 1803, it was taken by the British during the Second Anglo-Maratha War. It was used as a prison during the British Raj.
Earlier [clarification needed] Malik Ambar had ceded territories of Ahmednagar and Berar to Mughals however in 1617 A.D he broke the treaty with Mughals, In 1619 A.D he along with his Bargi troops commanded by Maloji laid a Siege to the Fort of Ahmednagar which he had lost to Mughals. [1]
