Second City Television, or SCTV, was a Canadian television sketch comedy show offshoot from the Toronto troupe of the Second City and ran from 1976 to 1984. Broadcaster and surgeon Charles A. "Chuck" Allard formed a partnership in 1981 that acquired the fledgling series.

This piece was actually an unsold pilot from 1978 featuring the voices of Martin Short, Steven Kampmann, Peter Torokvei and Don Dickinson, all members of the Second City Toronto cast between 1977 and 1979. Short would later join SCTV as a cast member.
The Groundlings is an American improvisational and sketch comedy troupe and school based in Los Angeles, California.The troupe was formed by Gary Austin in 1974 and uses an improv format influenced by Viola Spolin, whose improv techniques were taught by Del Close and other members of the Second City, located in Chicago and later St. Louis.
