This historic district encompasses 719 contributing buildings that are located in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of Milton. The buildings mostly date from the 1880s to the early twentieth century; older buildings were largely lost due to a fire in 1880 and floods in 1972 and 1977.
As originally built it contained 43 rooms, [7] with the first floor featuring a large entrance hall, billiard room, dining room, library and sitting room. Bedrooms were located on the second floor, with more on the third floor plus storage spaces and children's playrooms. [6] The house boasts a number of outbuildings.
Milton in 1930. Settled in 1770, Milton was incorporated in 1817, and is governed by a charter that was revised in 1890. Formerly, its extensive manufacturing plants included car and woodworking machinery shops; rolling, flour, knitting, planing, and saw mills; washer, nut, and bolt works; and furniture, shoe, couch, nail, fly net, bamboo novelty, and paper-box factories.

Pennsylvania Route 254 (PA 254) is a 30-mile-long (48 km) state highway located in Northumberland, Montour, and Columbia counties in Pennsylvania. The western terminus is at PA 405 in Milton. The eastern terminus is at PA 487 near Benton.
