In the next 2 hunts I suffered 4 failure to fires out of 2 different guns using the Boss shells that got wet a week earlier. Makes sense that water was culprit. Hard to believe a waterfowl load wouldn't resist water better.
Anyone used these? Supposedly awesome shells. I believe the shot is bismuth, guys are using 2 3/4 #5 for geese and crane and say they are hammering them. https://www.bossshotshells.com
I’ve hunted BOSS #5 in 12ga and 20ga. Haven’t noticed a bit of difference. Both shells kill. 12ga 2 3/4” has 1 1/4oz vs. 20ga 3” has 1 /8oz. I haven’t seen that 1/8oz make a difference. The 20ga is a lot nicer to carry and shoot. I used it with BOSS #3 on specks. Killed them, no problem. No cripples.

I've shot boss 2 3/4 #5 shot 1350fps at canvasback and Canada geese and watched them fold. I was thinking about loading bismuth but after calculating the cost of shot per load it's not worth it. I also patterned this load out of my SBE 2 with a Carlson long range extended tube and it threw an awesome pattern at 30 yards.

Hevi Metal's pattern better out of my setup than Boss shells. I can only shoot 2 3/4" out of my 20ga so i like Rio Blue Steel #5's with a patternmaster short range. I understand all the hype over the new non-toxic loads because they are all a better product than steel shot.

Well, that certainly is a dissapointment and I’m sorry to hear of the failures. In all of my use with BOSS offerings I cannot say I have had a single issue that was ammunition caused, outside of two 3” 12ga hulls that failed to eject due to it splitting at firing, which I have had occur with every brand of ammunition and hull type at some point, so it was credited as a “you shoot enough ...
Here are a few more comparisons for you to consider. Patterning results from a 12-gauge 3-inch Remington 870 Special Purpose with a 28-inch barrel and factory flush Rem-chokes (pattern average of five, 30-inch post-shot scribed circle, yardage taped muzzle to target, in-shell pellet count average of five, and true choke constriction from bore gauge).
