The Department of Archives and History has digitized selected portions of its records holdings for online access. The following records are a small sample of the material scanned and available via the Archives' Online Records Index :
The resulting images are available for viewing and printing from public access terminals at the county office. In addition, all Recorder, or Clerk offices retain microfilm of all recorded documents as permanent, historical records. In most cases, original documents are returned to the land owner.
Some records kept by South Carolina town, county, and other officials can include helpful genealogical information. Most are at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History and are thoroughly indexed.
