MLDonkey is an open-source, multi-protocol, peer-to-peer file sharing application that runs as a back-end server application on many platforms. It can be controlled through a user interface provided by one of many separate front-ends, including a Web interface, telnet interface and over a dozen native client programs.
File-sharing software is used to directly or indirectly transfer files from one computer to another over the Internet, over a smaller Intranet, or across simple networks following the peer-to-peer (P2P) model. Most of the programs are integrated in filesharing networks and obtain information about each other from central servers.
The software is built in a modular perspective; up to Pydio 8, various plugins [19] allowed administrators to implement extra features. [ 20 ] On the server side, Pydio Cells is deployed as a collection of independent microservices [ 21 ] communicating among themselves using gRPC and logging user actions via Activity Streams 2.0 (AS2) . OnionShare was released in 2014. Its initial release was hampered by RIAA and MPAA who wanted to limit peer-to-peer file sharing solutions. Lobby group such as RIAA and MPAA actively lobbied against peer-to-peer protocols and software that they had a hard time finding investment and development, hence why it took so long to release such a tool.
