Highland Park campus, 1904. In 1912, the school began construction of a new campus located in Los Angeles' Eagle Rock neighborhood. The Eagle Rock campus was designed by noted California architect Myron Hunt, also known as the planner of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) campus and as designer of the Huntington Library and Art Gallery and the Rose Bowl.
Eagle Rock is the site of Occidental College, which was first established in Boyle Heights in 1887. After a fire destroyed the original campus in 1896, it moved to Downtown Los Angeles, then Highland Park, until reopening permanently in Eagle Rock in 1914. The campus was designed by architect Myron Hunt. [20] [21]
The building was built in 1915 as a Carnegie library, named the Eagle Rock Carnegie Library. [3] The city of Eagle Rock was annexed to Los Angeles in 1923. The library was rebuilt in 1927, [3] and became the Eagle Rock Branch Library in the Los Angeles Public Library system. The library was closed in 1981 when a larger, accessible facility opened.
