San Marcos (/ ˌ s æ n ˈ m ɑːr k ə s /) is a city and the county seat of Hays County, Texas, United States. The city is a part of the Greater Austin Metropolitan Area. San Marcos's limits extend into Caldwell and Guadalupe counties, as well. San Marcos is on the Interstate 35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio.

State Highway 123 (SH 123) is a north–south state highway in Texas, United States, that connects U.S Route 181 (US 181) in Karnes City with Interstate 35 (I-35) in San Marcos. The route was initially proposed in 1927 and has had minimal changes to its routing since then.

On June 24, 2010, RM 12 was shifted to an alignment south of San Marcos, and the SH 80 designation was extended through the city to a terminus with RM 12 west of the city. On January 26, 2017, the section of SH 80 from RM 12 to Loop 82 was removed from the state highway system and was given to the city of San Marcos. [1] [11] [12]
