Srinagar (English: / ˈ s r iː n ə ɡ ər / ⓘ; Kashmiri pronunciation: [siriːnagar]) is a city in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir in the disputed Kashmir region. [1] It is the largest city and summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, which is an Indian-administered union territory.
According to the 2011 census Srinagar district has a population of 1,236,829, [5] roughly equal to the nation of Estonia [12] or the US state of New Hampshire. [13] This gives it a ranking of 381st in India (out of a total of 640). [5] The district has a population density of 703 inhabitants per square kilometre (1,820/sq mi). [5]

The city is famous for its lakes and houseboats floating over them. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dry fruits.
