Cedar Creek is a 53-kilometre-long (33 mi) [1] stream in southeastern Wisconsin in the United States. The Cedar Creek watershed is a 330 km 2 (127 mi 2 ) sub-basin of the larger Milwaukee River watershed.
When the first settlers—many of whom were German speakers—arrived in the area, they found white cedar trees growing on the banks of Cedar Creek.Early German-American settler Frederick Leuning built a cabin near the creek's eastern bank in 1843 and referred to his home as the "Cedarburg," meaning the "cedar castle" or the "fortress of the cedars."
Cedar Creek was originally called Maxonville, and under the latter name was founded in the 1840s by Densmore Maxon, and named for him. [2] The present name is after nearby Cedar Creek . [ 2 ]
