Bearpaw High Sierra Camp was founded in 1934, and is located in Sequoia National Park on the High Sierra Trail, which crosses the Sierra Nevada from west to east. It is located 11.5 miles (18.5 km) east of the western trailhead at Crescent Meadow, [ 1 ] at an elevation of 7,800 feet (2,400 m) overlooking the Great Western Divide .

Oakhurst (formerly Fresno Flats) [4] is a census-designated place (CDP) in Madera County, California, United States, 14 miles (23 km) south of the entrance to Yosemite National Park, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.

The Sierra Vista Scenic Byway begins two miles (3 km) north of the foothill community of North Fork, climbing the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range until its crest, and finally dropping back down into the foothills near Oakhurst. The byway is currently closed because of damage from fires and storms.
SR 49 then crosses into Sierra County, where it passes through Goodyears Bar, Downieville, and Sierra City on its forest journey. After passing near Kentucky Mine Historic Park , SR 49 goes through Bassetts and Haskell Creek , then shares a wrong-way concurrency with SR 89 briefly through Sattley and Sierraville .
