If you have a trailer with a lot of lights the diode and relay wiring is preferred, but if you have a trailer with a simple light arrangement it is usually sufficient to wire to 58L. In market there are many special converters [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] that solves the problem of connecting a car with European wiring to a trailer with North American wiring.
7-pin ISO 1724 trailer connector type 12N (Towing vehicle side). This connector uses a mix of pin and socket terminals. Physical design according to standard ISO 1724. [4] [8] The 7-pin connector uses all 7 pins on newer trailers according to the ISO standard. [9] [10] On older trailers there's sometimes a 5-wire setup using a 7-pin connector.

The 20 A plug has a blade rotated 90° (opposite blade from what would be the "line" blade on a 2-15 or 5-15 plug. This prevents accidental insertion of plugs into outlets that use different voltages), and the 6-20R receptacle has a T-shaped hole to accept both 6-15P and 6-20P plugs (similar to the 5-20R receptacle accepting 5-15P and 5-20P plugs).
