The Metropolitan Borough of Oldham is a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester in England. It is named after its largest town, Oldham. The borough had a population of 243,912 in 2022, making it the sixth-largest district by population in Greater Manchester. [3] The borough spans 142 square kilometres (55 sq mi). [5]
The council styles itself Oldham Council rather than its full formal name of Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council. [ 10 ] From 1974 until 1986 the council was a lower-tier authority, with upper-tier functions provided by the Greater Manchester County Council .
