DISCOVERY Children's Museum is a nonprofit children's museum in Las Vegas, Nevada. Formerly known as Lied Discovery Children's museum, this 58,000-square-foot (5,400 m 2), three-story space is now located adjacent to The Smith Center in Downtown Las Vegas. The Museum sees roughly 250,000 visitors each year.
Opened in March 2001, the museum is located in the J.W. Wood Building, an antebellum commercial structure listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. The museum opened its doors in 1990, and over 9 million visitors have visited. The 52,000-square-foot (4,800 m 2) purple building was designed by Mexico City-based architect Ricardo Legorreta, and houses 28,000-square-foot (2,600 m 2) of gallery space as well as a half-acre outdoor nature play space opened in 2017.

From 1987 to 2001, the operators of the museum and the Discovery Cube Orange County (then the Discovery Science Center) merged, although they split and the Science Center was renamed in 2001. Also in 1987, the citrus grove and rose gardens were first planted. [4] The museum's blacksmith shop opened on February 16, 1994.

The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum concept came from Chris Riche, an entrepreneur who conducted a feasibility study on the need for Reno to have a science center. He eventually raised funds to create the organization and Terry Lee Wells Foundation donated $4 million. In return, the museum was named after their foundation. [5]
