The Vineyard church was established in the UK by John and Eleanor Mumford. After visiting John Wimber in the US, the Mumfords returned to the UK to establish the first British Vineyard church, South West London Vineyard in 1987. VCUKI became its own national organisation in 1996, when it was released by the international body.

After an affordable site for a church was found in the Börnergasse, the Weinbergkirche was erected there between 1980 and 1981. The Vineyard Church was built on a rectangular ground plan. A sacristy was added to the north in the rising ground, which was extended during the restoration of the church in the 1990s. The main entrance is on the south side, which is designed as a "showcase of five axes". [15] A two-flight staircase leads to the portal of the vineyard church.

The church later joined John Wimber's Vineyard movement and was known as Toronto Airport Vineyard Church. It met in various rented locations throughout Toronto until the early 1990s when the church found a more permanent home near the Lester B. Pearson Airport. In January 1994, Randy Clark, a Vineyard pastor, was invited to preach.
