Camp Greentop is located in Catoctin Mountain Park near Thurmont, Maryland.The camp was built by the Works Progress Administration labor program in the development of what was then known as the Catoctin Mountain Recreational Demonstration Area, and comprises 22 rustic log buildings including sleeping cabins, administrative buildings and lodges.
The school was built in 1979 and serves students in the Washington County Public Schools system as a facility to promote environmental awareness. The school was renamed as of 9 December 2008 to honor the late former Washington County Public Schools superintendent Claud E. Kitchens, who oversaw the construction of the facility. [1]
Activities included are generally oriented towards youth development through recreation, social life, prevention, intervention, or education. During youth programs participants might be involved in sports, religion, community service, youth activism, youth service, or outdoor education.
The mission of the Maryland Park Service is to manage the natural, cultural, historical, and recreational resources to provide for stewardship and the enjoyment by people.
