The Grey Stakes is a Canadian Thoroughbred horse race held annually during the first week of October at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. A Grade III, it is open to two-year-old horses and is raced on dirt at a distance of 1 + 1 ⁄ 16 miles. Since 2006, the dirt racing surface at Woodbine Racetrack has been the synthetic Polytrack.
The Canadian International has been contested by many of the horses, jockeys, and trainers in thoroughbred racing history worldwide. Its success as a North American race drew an international field, helped inspire the creation of the Breeders' Cup races in 1984, which were held at Woodbine in 1996.

In 1859, the then-President of the Toronto Turf Club, Sir Casimir Gzowski, petitioned Queen Victoria to grant a plate for a new race in the Canada West (today Ontario). With the monarch's approval, the first Queen's Plate was run on 27 June 1860, at the Carleton racetrack in Toronto, with the prize of "a plate to the value of 50 guineas".
