The Lynchburg Hillcats are a Minor League Baseball team in Lynchburg, Virginia that plays in the Carolina League and is the Single-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians.They were a farm team of the Atlanta Braves from 2011 to 2014, the Cincinnati Reds in 2010, and the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1995 to 2009.
Their newest affiliate is the Lynchburg Hillcats of the Carolina League, which became the Guardians' Class A-Advanced club in 2015, and were reassigned to Single-A in 2021. Geographically, Cleveland's closest domestic affiliate is the Lake County Captains of the High-A Midwest League , which are approximately 16 miles (26 km) away.

The Lynchburg Hillcats finished with the best record in the league for the first time since 1992. Despite finishing with the best record in the South Division, the Buies Creek Astros failed to qualify for the post-season, as they did not finish in first place in either half of the season.
The 2016 Carolina League was a Class A-Advanced baseball season played between April 9 and September 7. Eight teams played a 140-game schedule, with two teams from each division competing in the playoffs.
The Lynchburg Hillcats won their seventh Carolina League championship, defeating the Winston-Salem Dash in four games. The semi-finals were reduced from a best-of-five series to a best-of-three series.
