The West Bengal Civil Service (Executive) (Paśchimboṅgo Nāgarik Sēbā), commonly known as W.B.C.S. (Exe.), is the civil service of the Indian state of West Bengal.The Public Service Commission of West Bengal conducts competitive examinations for W.B.C.S. (Exe.) and other similar posts in three phases each year: Preliminary, Mains, and Personality Test.
The grades of the five or six subjects (depending on the scoring system used) taken are added to give an aggregate score known as L1R5 (one language subject and five relevant subjects), or EL1R2B2, which is a separate aggregate scoring system used for polytechnic admission. The score is calculated by adding up the numeral of each grade.
For points equal or lesser than 34, no points were added to the grand total. Despite the presence of this subject, percentage totals were calculated in 800 and not 900 points, thus offering the chance to score more than 100%. As of late this method has been discontinued and students may take up an additional subject solely to gain knowledge.
However, tests may also award partial credit for unanswered questions or penalize students for incorrect answers, to discourage guessing. For example, the SAT Subject tests remove a quarter point from the test taker's score for an incorrect answer. For advanced items, such as an applied knowledge item, the stem can consist of multiple parts.
