Ireton was named for the famous English Revolutionary General Henry Ireton at the time of its platting in 1882. The town became incorporated in 1890. In the early days of Ireton there were a lot of businesses in town including a jewelry store, furniture store, bakery, a dentist, and 2 doctors to name a few.
