Barclaycard (/ ˈ b ɑːr k l i k ɑːr d,-l eɪ-/; stylised as barclaycard) is a brand for credit cards of Barclays PLC. It is considered as the United Kingdom's first and now biggest credit card provider with 5 million accounts.
Access was a British credit card brand launched by Lloyds Bank, Midland Bank and National Westminster Bank in 1972 to rival the already established Barclaycard. [1] The business operated from Southend-on-Sea, until 1989 when part of the business was transferred to Basildon.
Barclays launched the first credit card in the UK, Barclaycard, in 1966. On 27 June 1967, Barclays deployed the world's first cash machine , in Enfield ; Barclays Bank, Enfield . [ 28 ] [ 29 ] The British actor Reg Varney was the first person to use the machine.
