In 1883, the town consisted of the superintendent's mansion, twenty-three miners' homes, a store with dwelling, and five outbuildings. The mine closed in 1893 because of competition from the new nickel mines in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. No trace of the mines remains today, except for a few waste dumps. The area is now entirely agricultural.
A public marketplace was deeded on this site in 1730 as part of the settlement of Lancaster. The marketplace was officially chartered by King George II on May 1, 1742, officially designating Lancaster as a market town. The Central Market occupies a portion of the original marketplace, with the first permanent building erected in 1757.
In 1929 Enos Miller opened a gas station and automobile repair shop on Lincoln Highway East in Ronks, Pennsylvania. Anna Miller, wife of Enos, sold home cooked food to customers and became renowned for her Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine. The food side of the business became so successful that the Millers expanded it into the repair shop's space.
Ronks is a small unincorporated farming community and census-designated place (CDP) in East Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States, just west of Paradise. [4] As of the 2010 census the population was 362. [5] The community is the home of Ronks Concrete Company and has a large Amish and Mennonite population.
