Togo, [a] officially the Togolese Republic, [b] is a country in West Africa.It is bordered by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east and Burkina Faso to the north. [11] It is one of the least developed countries and extends south to the Gulf of Guinea, where its capital, Lomé, is located. [11]

An initial border in the southernmost section west of Lomé was agreed upon by Britain and Germany on 14 July 1886. [8] [2] It was extended further to the north to the Volta-Daka confluence the following year. [8] This section of the border was then delimited in more detail via an Anglo-German agreement of 1 July 1890.
