Belle Fourche (/ b ɛ l ˈ f uː ʃ /; bel-FOOSH) [7] is a city in and the county seat of Butte County, South Dakota, United States. [8] Its population was 5,617 at the 2020 census . [ 4 ]
The operation was acquired by U-I in 1920, and the factory was moved to Belle Fourche, South Dakota in 1927. [5] The Springville-Mapleton Sugar Company built a 350-ton plant in Springville, Utah in 1918. U-I acquired it in 1932 and dismantled it in 1940. [5] The Gunnison Valley Sugar Company built a 500-ton factory in Centerfield, Utah in 1918. [5]

The Belle Fourche Experiment Farm, located northwest of Newell, South Dakota off Highway 79, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The listing included seven contributing buildings on 25 acres (10 ha). [1] It is an experimental farm of the U.S. Department of Agriculture which has also known as the Newell Field Station.
